RS Academy
I am pleased to announce the new Royal Southern Academy for 18-25 year olds which is now set up. This has been a topic of discussion for some time and I am very pleased to support it because today's young members are the future Full Members of our Club. |
| A Project Team consisting of myself as Chairman, Chris Mansfield - Rear Commodore Sailing, Stuart Childerley - Sailing Committee, Karen Henderson-Williams, Colin Sinclair and Colin Hall are putting together a programme right now. |
| The Academy will start with a training session on Saturday 13 March, just before the start of the Warsash Spring Series, and continue with training and social activities from there throughout the summer. |
Help Needed
Although in time the Academy may acquire its own boats, to start, the whole concept relies upon owners being willing to help in the training sessions with their boats, and being able to offer crew places for racing itself. RIBs and qualified drivers are also needed for instructors and video recording.
We are sure that this will be worthwhile, because it will increase the pool of competent racing crew for you and other Club Members and lead to the young people seeing the Southern as the Club to belong to. They may even invite us to their parties! |
| So, I hope that you will be able to help. An online version of the "help wanted" form is available below. Do please complete and return it if you can help. I am sure that the Royal Southern Academy is the start of something that will be a great benefit to the Club and its Members in the future. |
18 - 25
All Club Members aged 18 to 25 are invited to enrol in the Club's new Academy. The first activity will be an on water training and social session on Saturday 13 March, the day before the first race in the WSC Spring Series. |
| There will be professional coaching plus advice from some of the Club's finest sailors; weather briefing; on-water video; the opportunity to meet and socialise with other members of the Academy, plus racing in the Spring Series itself. |
| More will follow for the Spring Series with more training and social sessions, the Crew Ball and then the Club's Regattas with the opportunity to sail SB3s and IRC racers, meet the other sailors and run your own social events. The Academy is also the passport to selection for future Club teams, so sign up now. |
Low Cost Membership
There are lots of good young sailors out there who are not Members so please tell any sailing friends who are not yet Members that this is the ideal low cost way to belong to the 'Southern' - the Royal Southern Academy. Give them a copy of this leaflet or send us their details and we'll get in touch. |
