HRH Princess Royal Launches The Royal Southern Yacht Club Trust

Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, officially launched the Royal Southern Yacht Club's charitable trust at the Southampton Boat Show today.

Mrs Annette Newton, Commodore of the Club, explained that historically the Royal Southern has supported a number of charities, including taking disabled people out on the water through RYA Sailability.

Following a recent bequest by a member of the Club, the late Sir Michael Cobham, it was decided to establish The Royal Southern Yacht Club Trust to continue to promote the advancement of amateur sport and, in particular, the provision of facilities and assistance to enable and encourage participation in sailing and yachting.

Announcing the launch of the Royal Southern Yacht Club Trust at the presentation held on the Royal Yachting Association's boat show stand, HRH The Princess Royal was most interested to hear about the charitable trust and its tremendous start with the generous support from the late Sir Michael Cobham's bequest.

Her Royal Highness congratulated the Royal Southern Yacht Club on initiating the Trust which will encourage and assist sailing for all, taking forward the Club's current support for sailing, particularly for the young or disadvantaged.
Press Release ends. 17th September, 2007
