 Royal Southern Awards First Trust Grants
in RSrnYC Charitable Trust

| Royal Southern Awards First Trust Grants |
The Royal Southern Yacht Club's Charitable Trust has distributed its first grants to five recipients.
Launched last September at Southampton Boat Show, in the presence of HRH The Princess Royal, the Trust's aim is to encourage and enable sailing for all, and most of the inaugural grants are to young sailors. |
| The funds for the twice yearly grants are derived from interest accrued on legacies to the Royal Southern Yacht Club, the initial funding coming from a bequest from the late Sir Michael Cobham, a long term member of the Club. |
| The recipients of the inaugural grants are: |
| Alex Mothersele, aged 15 is a promising sailor aiming to do well in the RS Feva Nationals and Worlds this summer in Sweden. The funds awarded will help him with his costs. |
| Andrew Sinclair, aged 15, has sailed most of his life, but has fairly recently taken up multihull sailing and is already part of the RYA Hobie Dragoon Team competing at Eurocat 2008 in Brittany this summer. The Royal Southern's Trust grant will help him with his travel costs. |
| Andrew Smith is a leg amputee, disabled as the result of a car accident. Andrew is now sailing a Challenger dinghy, the same kind of craft which Geoff Holt used for his Personal Everest Round Britain sail last summer. The Trust's grant will help Andrew with the costs of travelling to the Challenger World Championships in Portugal. |
| Hamble Sea Scouts need new sails for their Bosun dinghies and the Royal Southern's Trust grant will provide for one suit of sails to enable the Scouts to enjoy their competitive sailing this year. |

| The final inaugural grant goes to the Royal Southern's own Youth Team, all students under 21, for their SB3 Campaign. The funds will be used towards their 2008 Cowes Week race entry fees. |
| "The Trustees were delighted to receive a good number of high quality requests for grants, all of which would have been worthy recipients", said Mrs Annette Newton, Commodore of the Club and Chairman of the Trustees. " At this early stage in the life of the Trust we have only a small amount of income to distribute, but are delighted to have been able to support five of the applicants. It is our intention to invite applications for further grants to be made in September this year and in March and September of each subsequent year." |

Beginners are from 7pm to 8pm and intermediates/improvers from 8.15pm until 9.15pm.
