Solent Harbour Masters at the Royal Southern

Commodore, John Beardsley and Rear Commodore Sailing, Chris Mansfield, hosted a lunch for senior representatives of the four major harbour authorities controlling Solent waters as a thank you for their considerable and much valued assistance to the Club in staging racing and on-water events.

Mr. Roger Davies (AQHM Portsmouth), Capt. Philip Holliday (HM ABP Southampton), Mr. Tony Clatworthy (HM Hamble) and Capt. Stuart McIntosh (HM Cowes) were joined by other members of the Sailing and Executive Committees for an exchange of views on activities within their relevant areas and on the Club's projected plans for the future.

The Club is always in need of volunteers

The Club is always in need of volunteers. What can you offer? What do we need?

In the sailing season we need committee boats and we need people to man them.

The entertainments committee are always looking for fresh faces bringing new ideas and someone is needed to look after our chart room and library.

Magazine & Website: We are also interested in land-based activities - we have heard rumours of skiing rendezvous and intrepid adventures.

You do not have to write much and good photos are always appreciated (high resolution for the magazine please). Copy and images can be emailed or put onto disk and left with the office.

We know that members do not just sit at home and hibernate during the winter. We want to know what you are doing - whether it is cruising the Caribbean, racing at any location between Hamble and Hobart or cruising the Atlantic or Pacific.

Video too. If you have shot any "on the water" video that might be suitable for the website please get in touch. we can help with editing if needed.

Internet WiFi / Hot Spot at the Southern

Internet Wifi connections are provided for the use of members, guests and visitors using the club facilities.

There are three different wireless routers (Hotspots) in different locations that can be used to connect to the internet.
Depending on where you are will dictate which 'Hotspot' is best to connect to.

SouthernNET
Located outside of the North end of the clubhouse, this network can be accessed while you are on the river if you are in range.
This connection is not recommended while inside the building.

SouthernNet2
Located in the Chart Room, this network services the South end of the clubs public rooms including the Chart room, River room, Lower Bar and the South lower balcony.

SouthernNet3
Located in the North upper bar, this network services the Upper bar, Yeoman Room, Youth room, North and South dinning rooms.

To connect, ask the Office or Bar Staff for the Password Encryption Key
