Upper Helford River Tremayne Quay. in Cruising Notes
The charm of the Helford River will be known to all who explore the West Country. And there are a fair number of of well maintained ( green ) visitors moorings in the main reach with good pick-up buoys, whilst to the west of them is a small patch where anchoring is permitted, and the RNSA buoy will be found - for those entitled to use it. Restraints on anchoring to the west of this because of oyster beds and also further out near Grebe Rock ( eel grass preservation ) will be found updated in almanacs and pilots.

There are really two Weymouths. Seaside Weymouth spread along the splendid sandy bay and the cosy intimate Weymouth harbour to the south of it. But I have never found the harbour to live up to expectations as a port of call for cruising yachts.

West Bay Dorset 50 42N 02 45W. in Cruising Notes

I had always been hoping for a halfway harbour in crossing Lyme Bay - 45nm from Portland Bill to Dart - too often a tedious plug against a westerly , or a motoring marathon in a calm. Lyme Regis harbour is of limited use only to bilge keelers or other shallow drafters. Local boats do not always make you welcome drying out against the mole.
The two or three offshore moorings are exposed and most unlikely to allow a peaceful night.
