Waterside Facilities - A guide for members and visiting yachtsmen & women
Moorings & berthing, afloat & ashore.
A guide for members and visiting yachtsmen & women
The Royal Southern Yacht Club is based on the West side of the Hamble River, at the foot of Hamble village High Street. Less than a mile South, and you are into Southampton Water, with the Solent and the Isle of Wight beyond.
The Club offers extensive facilities to members, guests and visitors, ranging from the clubhouse with its bars, restaurant and totally refurbished bedrooms, to the comprehensive onshore and afloat berthing, storage etc covered by this guide. Please read it carefully.
Members Facilities.
1: The main Club Landing Pontoon .
2: The Dinghy Pontoon.
3: Pontoon moorings off the Club.
4: RIB berths afloat on the West side of the main Landing Pontoon.
5: Dry berthing ashore, with crane service, for Sportsboats.
6: Storage ashore with slipway access for members tenders.
7: Storage ashore with slipway access for junior members sailing dinghies.
8: Launch service to Club & river moorings within a limited radius.
For Short Stay or Overnight berthing booking is mandatory. Contact the Sailing Secretary or the Duty Bosun to check availability and confirm your booking.
Boats which are not booked will be charged at double the standard rate. In normal circumstances, double banking is permitted on this Pontoon only, but at no time must access to the mooring channel be restricted.
Any boat blocking access will be required to move immediately by the Bosun or the Hamble River Harbourmaster.
B. The Dinghy Pontoon is available for
Berthing of the Club dinghies
1: Berthing of dinghies by members who have paid for this facility.
2: Very short term berthing for Sportsboats as they are launched & recovered.
Club dinghies are for the use of all members and must never be left anywhere other than on this pontoon for any extended period. They must never be left on other pontoons or moorings whilst boats are absent.
Dinghies are provided with rowlocks & oars, which must be unshipped and stowed when not in use. Rowlocks left in place get lost, or damage other boats. Bailers or pumps are normally available in dinghies or on the pontoon. Please make sure they remain there.
Please report any damage or deficiency immediately to the Bosuns
Members’ dinghies must not be padlocked to the pontoon unless keys are left with the Bosun, nor may outboards be left in place, as they are liable to damage other dinghies.
C. Club Moorings on Pontoons on the West & East sides of the river are for
1: Annual berthing for members yachts.
2: Berthing of yachts participating in certain Championship events.
3: Berthing of other members yachts when space is available.
Berthing of visiting yachts when space is available.
Moorings are allocated by annual ballot on a priority basis, first to serving Commodore & Vice Commodore and to former Commodores, secondly to regular supporters of Club events, either as participants or Committee vessels, and finally to all other club members. Conditions apply. Please ask for full details.
Berth holders are encouraged to inform the Sailing Secretary or Bosun of periods when they will be away from their berth, and indeed are required to do so for periods of more than 7 days.
The Club is therefore often able to offer berthing to members (who are given priority) and visitors. Please contact the Sailing Secretary or Head Bosun to check on availability.
D. Dry Berthing for Sportsboats.
Sportsboats spaces are allocated by annual ballot. Boats must keep to them. Trailers must be returned to these spaces when boats are afloat. The crane is provided to allow sportsboats to be launched and recovered.
Keys are available to authorised users who have undertaken the relevant training. No other person may operate the crane – non members are not insured. Health & Safety Regulations require that no-one is under the crane whilst it is in operation.
E. Shore storage for tenders & Dinghies.
Dinghy / tender storage is provided in a designated area and is allocated on a first come, first served basis. All users of this facility must pay the relevant annual or short term fees. Dinghies stored ashore must be returned to their allocated spaces after use.
Annual shore storage is available for junior members sailing dinghies in a designated area, with most dinghies using purpose built racks.
This facility is again allocated on a first come, first served basis. Shorter term storage is often available. Contact the Sailing Secretary. All relevant fees must be paid.
Please bear in mind that space at the Club is severely restricted and it is therefore incumbent on all our members to adhere strictly to the rules covering use of these facilities. Refer to the Waterside Rules” for any clarification.
F. Other Facilities.
Within the Clubhouse, showers, toilets etc are available to all members and visitors.
Our bars are open every lunchtime and evening, - all day on summer weekends -and our restaurant service normally operates every day, lunch and dinner, except Sunday, Monday & Tuesday evenings.
Club facilities, ashore and afloat, may be booked by members, and under certain conditions by non members, for all sorts of events.
The Club has a wide variety of rooms of all sizes available for parties, conferences, meetings etc.
G. Car Park.
Please respect the restricted nature of space in the Car Park. Only cars with a current year sticker may use the Car Park, and should park in such a way as to maximise the number a cars which can fit into the available space. Sportsboats, RIBs, dinghies and trailers must never be left in the South or North Car Parks.
H. Flag Etiquette
All Club yachts, during the hours of daylight, must wear Club Burgee and appropriate Ensign whilst alongside the Landing Pontoon, when the member is in the vicinity. A copy of the Club guide to Flag Etiquette may be downloaded here.
I. Waterside Rules
Please make sure you have read and understood the Waterside Rules which are issued by the Club, and updated regularly. Copies can be obtained from the Sailing Office.
Water & electricity are available on the West side pontoons. Top up cards can be purchased from the Bosuns. Please ensure that electrical cables are carefully run, to avoid tripping the unwary, especially at night!
When the link is in place from the Landing Pontoon, yachts may be required to move in order to clear space for major events.
A little more detail . .
