| 2010 Clay Pigeon Shooting - Advance Information |
The RSYC Shooting Society continues to grow since its inception in 2001 and is now the envy of many of the sailing clubs throughout the Solent.
We hold four club events a year, generally outside the main sailing season, each at a different shoot ground within easy travel of the club. Each shoot day is very convivial with three types of shooting competition, hearty refreshments and copious amounts of banter.
Our shoot days are open to club members and guests whether shooting or not. Indeed, those new to shooting are made especially welcome; with dedicated instructors and loan of a suitable gun, with a view to guiding the novice to a level where they can participate in the main competitions. |
 |
Prizes are awarded on the day for the highest scoring club member, guest and highest scoring gun after their handicap has been included. The handicaps of recent guns are published on the web site. There is also a prize for those hitting the Googly and for the highest scoring team flush. We are very grateful to our sponsors, Avery's wine merchants, for those prizes.
Throughout the year, those shooting on at least three of the four days are automatically entered for our RSYC prizes to be awarded to the highest scoring member, guest, lady and novice gun. If a gun attends all four of the days, then the highest three scores are used for entry to the RSYC prizes. |
In keeping with the current climate, the cost of the day is kept to a minimum. At the appropriate time, full details of each shoot day will be published on the web site and via club mailings. In the meantime, please keep the following dates free:
Wednesday 10th February - Wylye Valley Shooting Ground
Thursday 25th March - Widdington Farm
Tuesday 11th May - Lains Shooting School
Thursday 9th September - Compton Manor
These events are an excellent opportunity to meet up with friends, outside the sailing season, and compete irrespective of the size of boat, power or sail! |
| The Shooting Society also fields a team called the "Southern Shots" to support fund raising for the RNLI. Last year, our team came a commendable fifth with our Shoot Captain taking the highest lady prize. All members of the RSYC Shooting Society are invited to put together a team in addition to the existing "Southern Shots" team for next year's fund raising initiative to be held on Friday 24th September 2010. Again full details will be published on the RSYC web site. |
| In addition, we are pleased to announce that the RSYC Shooting Society is hosting the Solent Yacht Clubs Challenge Clay Pigeon Shoot to which over a dozen sailing clubs have been invited. The date for the competition is Saturday 24th April 2010. The Shooting Society is fielding a team to be made up from the membership. In the past the RSYC has done well, winning or coming a close runner up. All guns within the membership are asked to keep this date free in anticipation of being called upon to represent the club. |
| Finally, by request from a number of club members, we are arranging regular practice meetings for which no booking is required, so that guns can turn up to shoot and pay on the day. This will be particularly attractive to those who can only spare a few hours and are tied by other commitments. It should also be of interest to those members who may be called upon to represent the RSYC since the other clubs have now started to arrange similar practice sessions and we will need to field the best possible team if we are to win. |
| If the practice meetings, or any other matters, are of interest to you, then please contact your Shoot Captain, Sally Sturt on 07767 30 10 95. |
| If you wish to show your appreciation of our sponsors by ordering wines directly, please contact Sam Olive on 01275 812 230 or 01275 812 246 (direct) or via email on samolive@averys.com . A full selection of their wines can be seen on www.averys.com . |
