| Welcome to the Motor Boat Home Page |
The Club has a proud record of organising motor boating events extending more than 100 years and 2009 marks further waypoints in that story.
Motor boating enthusiasts, whether Solent explorers, blue water cruisers, fast ribsters, offshore racers or ex motor boaters, are equally likely to find a warm welcome at all the Club's events, afloat or ashore.
Cruising in company is a good way to start and I look forward to seeing you in the Club and out on the water.

Spring Rally 2-4 May 2009 Start Time : 10.00
The season opens with a cruise in company, over-nighting on Saturday in Bembridge Harbour, where we will have supper at the Bembridge Sailing Club, cruising west to overnight in Yarmouth on the Sunday and completing the Spring Bank Holiday weekend with lunch on the Monday at the Royal Southampton Yacht Club's Gins Farm base, on the Beaulieu River.
Three very pleasant Solent watering holes with not too onerous an itinerary reaching them. David Mead is leading the organising team. |
Open Weekend 30-31 May 2009
As its name suggests, this is a weekend at which the Club hosts visitors from along the coast and a proven format of gentle competition within the Solent tests seamanship and brainpower in roughly equal measure. A poker run, time over distance predicted log and treasure hunt are the elements and 2009 will see an inaugural inter-club team competition, as well as trophies for individual competitors.
Sponsorship from horologists, Michel Herbelin, Motor Boats Monthly, Marina Marbella, Swordsman Marine, SeaStart and GJW Direct guarantees a weekend of good food, good fun and good prizes and RIBS compete for the E P Barrus Trophy. Temporary membership is extended over the duration of the weekend and David Mead, Mike Grice and John Walker organise what has become a must-do event for motor boaters. |
Euro Rally 4-19 July 2009
Each summer for more than ten years, the motor boat contingent has ventured into mainland Europe in search of culture, cool cruising grounds and collective degustation gastronomique. Previously, the Club's Euro Rallies have visited Paris, Rotterdam, the Isles of Scilly, the Golfe du Morbihan Normandy and Brittany and 2009 will see a return to the Channel Islands and the Brittany coast.
Cruising together or alone, fast or slow, the plan will be to get together for two or three nights each in Guernsey, Jersey, Granville and Carteret, a flexible and sociable way of enjoying two weeks in company. Jennie & Trevor Blaber will lead the organising team for the cruise and plans are already well advanced. |
Autumn Rally 19-20 September 2009
The season closes with a cruise in company to haunts of coot and hern, overnighting in the peaceful Island Harbour beyond the Folly in the upper reaches of the Medina and awaking to the sound of birdsong. Not the most taxing navigation to get there, but the excellent Bistro will host our end of season supper and there may be one or two surprises of a good kind. John Walker is leading the organising team. |
Christmas Dinner 4 December 2009
The famous Motorboat, Golf and Shooting dinner, now in its ninth year, is a great way to jump-start the Christmas season and members of the Motor Boat Committee ensure an entertaining evening. |
Golf and Clay Pigeon Shooting also fall within the Motorboat Committee remit and full details of their itineraries can be found on their own pages. The key to the Royal Southern Yacht Club Motorboat Committee activities is enjoyment of boats, surroundings and people.
It is a good format and it works. |
