Spring Rally  1-3 May 2010
The season opens with a cruise in company, overnighting on Saturday and Sunday in Poole Harbour, where we will visit the Royal Motor Yacht Club and Lake Yard Club. Cruising east on the Monday morning, we will complete the Spring Bank Holiday weekend with lunch at the Royal Southampton Yacht Club's Gins Farm base, on the Beaulieu River. Two very pleasant watering holes and not too onerous an itinerary reaching them, though weather will ultimately define the cruise. David Mead is leading the organising team.
Dunkirk Rally  28-30 May 2010
Hailed as 'the greatest rescue operation in history', Operation Dynamo saw hundreds of civilian sailors, in an unlikely variety of little ships, join the Navy and RAF in the evacuation of 350,000 allied troops from the beaches of France, between 27 May - 04 June 1940. The Association of Little Ships has continued to mark the anniversary of this astonishing evacuation that gave us the expression, 'Dunkirk spirit', and a further cruise by some of the vessels originally deployed in the massive troop movement and a supporting flotilla, is scheduled for 28-30 May 2010. The Royal Southern Yacht Club is again honoured to provide some of the support flotilla.
Plans are still being finalised but the Hamble fleet will probably forgather in Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne before cruising the last leg to Dunkirk in company, with the final passage scheduled for 27/28 May. Berthing will be within the locked inner harbour. Amongst the other celebrations to mark the Anniversary, it is hoped that Royal Southern Members will have a pontoon party and a reception aboard MV Princess Elizabeth.
After the Anniversary celebrations, it is hoped to continue cruising in company into Holland, which should appeal to both sailing & motor boats. Remember Rotterdam! Martin Bedford is co-ordinating the motorboat flotilla with co-organisers, Bill & Judy Nutt.
Open Weekend  16-18 July 2010
Slipped into July to accommodate the Dunkirk Rally, this is the weekend at which the Club hosts visitors from along the coast and a proven format of gentle competition within the Solent tests seamanship and brainpower in roughly equal measure. A poker run, time over distance predicted log and treasure hunt are the elements and 2010 will see the second running of the Inter-Club Team Competition, as well as trophies for individual competitors, in a weekend of good food, good fun and good prizes.
Temporary membership is extended over the duration of the weekend and David Mead & John Walker organise what has become a must-do event for motor boaters.

Autumn Rally  18-19 September 2010
The Motorboat season afloat closes with the Autumn Rally, a cruise in company to Cowes, overnighting in Cowes Yacht Haven. Not the most taxing navigation to get there but the excellence of dinner at The Prospect and lunch at the Island Sailing Club make this a jolly gastronomic jaunt. John Walker is leading the organising team.
Christmas Dinner 4 December 2010
Those with sharper eyes will have picked up that this now famous Motorboat, Golf and Shooting dinner is moving from its traditional Friday evening date to the Saturday. It is a great way to jump-start the Christmas season, the incomparable Teddy Messiah spins the vinyl and David Mead is in charge.
Golf and Clay Pigeon Shooting.
These Club activities also fall within the Motorboat Committee remit and full details of their itineraries can be found on their own pages. The key to the Royal Southern Yacht Club Motorboat Committee activities is enjoyment of boats, surroundings and people. It is a good format and it continues to offer great variety and value.
