A very warm welcome to the Royal Southern Yacht Club's 2008 Racing Programme.

Here on the Racing home page you will find links to the latest news, results and files.
We could not host these events without the expertise and support of our volunteer members and staff, both afloat and ashore, so I take this opportunity to thank them all.

I wish you all fair winds and enjoyable sailing in 2008.

Royal Southern Yacht Club members have won both the JP Morgan Round the Island Race and the Round Britain Race in the same week.
Ran, owned by Niklas Zennstrom was first overall in the JP Morgan Round the Island Race last Saturday, winning the JP Morgan Trophy, the Gold Roman Bowl and the JPMAM Salver. Niklas Zennstrom, his Tactician Jeremy Robinson and Trimmer Jerry Epplet are all Royal Southern Yacht Club members.
Royal Southern members were also successful in other classes, with Jack Sparrow owed by Marie Claude Heys, winning IRC Division 2, The Ant Hill Mob owned by Russell Mead being the first 707 in the Turbo UK Cup and Edigitalresearch.com owned by Charlie and Alec Russell taking the Laser Trophy for the first SB3 round the Island.

The 2008 Round Britain Powerboat Race finished at Portsmouth on Monday, with another victory for the Royal Southern when member Chris Clayton and his crew brought his veteran offshore racing powerboat Gee, home to win the Historic Class.
Built originally in the 1960's by WA Souter of Cowes, Gee took part in many offshore races including the 1969 Round Britain Race, which was then run by the Royal Southern Yacht Club.
Chris Clayton acquired Gee four years ago and upgraded the boat to include the installation of two Cummins Mercruiser Diesel QSB 5.9 litre, 380hp turbo-diesel engines earlier this year, in order to participate in the 1400 nautical mile offshore marathon round Britain.
Gee's elapsed time was 34 hours, 17 minutes and 21 seconds. A jubilant Chris Clayton said: "Finishing this race is a bit like climbing a mountain.
We don't quite know where to look now for the next challenge but this has been an incredibly intense three months of team effort to achieve an incredible result."
