A very warm welcome to the Royal Southern Yacht Club's 2008 Racing Programme.

Here on the Racing home page you will find links to the latest news, results and files.
We could not host these events without the expertise and support of our volunteer members and staff, both afloat and ashore, so I take this opportunity to thank them all.

I wish you all fair winds and enjoyable sailing in 2008.

Savage Sailing Team - Clean Sweep at Skandia Cowes Week
The Savage Sailing Team that includes RSrnYC Members Liz Savage and Richard Hughes were fortunate to win the J80 class at Cowes Week with a clean sweep of firsts. This was enough to win White Group Overall.
All at the RSrYC congratulate the team on this prestigious win.

“Winning the J80 Class with 6 bullets and then the Overall Trophy for Cowes Week has been one of our Team’s best achievements. With boat speeds up to 20 knots, sportsboats like the J80 are mentally and physically demanding to sail and I believe we won this windy regatta with a well prepared yacht and a close knit and experienced crew.
Ben Walker and Richard Hughes have worked hard with my sister and I over four years to raise our game to a high level, and with the help of a shore crew and support boat we left nothing to chance in our preparation for Cowes.”
Chris Savage

Extract from Cowes Week Press Release:
The penultimate day of Skandia Cowes Week found the engraver poised to etch names, new and old, on some cherished silverware as the Solent was cleared of racing boats to prepare for a tumultuous fireworks display.
At the start of the day, 17 of the 37 classes had already been decided and six boats out of the 2008 entry of 976 had maintained their remarkable unbeaten records.
Liz and Chris Savage in Savage Sailing Team had made a clean sweep in the J80 class taking their tally of wins to 17 in 20 races in the past three years.
Similarly, Jon Powell and Sarah Norbury were undefeated in the Hunter 707s, Edward Donald's Njordic Folkboat Madelaine was invincible in IRC Class 9 and Ian Braham's MG346 Dean & Dyball Enigma had produced a matchless performance in IRC Class 6 to reclaim their 2006 title.
However, by the end of the day, as freaky Friday took its course, five had been beaten to tarnish an otherwise flawless week for their crews.
