Splash Week Summary 2009
2009 was definitely a Splash to remember! In the middle of this hectic week came windy Wednesday, 25 knots of wind, pounding rain and some very committed and determined sailors. Despite the conditions everyone enjoyed it immensely.
The Triumphant Turtles.
The Turtles were so popular that we had to split them into two groups to form the infamous Ninja and Super Turtles!
Nothing could stop this army of dedicated sailors from trying to outshine the Eagles in the races and activities, even the previously shy stepped up to take the challenge and boy didn't they fly!!!!
On the last day of a week chock-a-block with fun we held three races, one for the sailors who wished to race with an adult, another for the sailors who had achieved reaching and gybing and a final race for those who had mastered tacking. All the sailors did exceptionally well and loved their first race.
The Miraculous Minnows
Stuart gave the Minnows a lot to think about. His apprentices so to speak, followed closely around every mark learning how to tack and gybe.
The Minnows decided to brave it on Wednesday. Some of the Minnows surprised us all and joined the battle with the high winds. It ended up with salty sweets tired faces and some well earned rewards
Heroic Hawks & Enthusiastic Eagles
The band of 14 Hawks arrived on Sunday to be put straight into a Racing battle with the Eagles! Undaunted in every task they made it through to the end of the week with triumph and accomplishment.
The Eagles had a fantastic 2009 Splash where they are now displaying some remarkable skills in all winds. It really helps that nearly all
The Eagles now have trustworthy, robust boats, which was particularly important on 'windy Wednesday! Over half the squad superbly mastered the +20 knots conditions with mind-blowing displays of confidence and boatmanship.Virginia Georgoulas was particularly impressive!
We now have Ben Waha, Max Clapp, Sally Clapp, Conor Whelan, Emily Walters and Emma Handley achieving great things at Optimist Open Meetings with much, much more to come in 2010.
GOODBYE AND KEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP ON SAILING!!!
