The Junior Cadet section of our club is a very active and lively section. We organise events both on and off the water, predominately during the summer months. |
| JCs move up from Splashers at the age of 13 or the closest time to their 13th birthday. We run this group from 13 to 18 years of age, when the JCs become Cadet members of the club. |
In order to move into JCs the teenagers must have achieved a good level of sailing ability (at least RYA Level 3 or equivalent) and they should be confident enough to sail either a Pico or Laser dinghy. They must either own or hire their own boat to take part.
We have a club Laser, but most teenagers own their own dinghy when they reach this section of the youth. We do not sail Optimists in this group.
We organise both RYA training, race coaching and cruising in groups. Barbeques, go karting, bowling and many exciting events are a part of our programme. |
| During our family week in August the JCs start the week with a weekend full of activities on and off the water. They then take part in the younger children’s splash week by helping either as instructors on the water or on the shore organising fun activities for the younger members. During the week they also enjoy sailing their Lasers and Picos, taking part in various races to compete for a variety of trophies. |
As part of our JC programme we introduce the JCs to SB3 sailing and last year the first SB3 youth team was formed.
This boat helmed and crewed by JCs is competing in both local and National events - recent successes being 8th overall in the Warsash Spring Series 2008, which is a great achievement in a very competitive fleet of 60 boats. |
Events for Cadets and JCs are advertised in the clubs programme or our club secretary Lucy Burn will be able to help you.
Failing that please feel free to call Karen Henderson-Williams JC and Cadet leader for further information.01344-620923. |
