Westerhall Rums join the party as Summer Sailing Sponsor

Adding some Caribbean flavour and fun to the Royal Southern’s Summer Sailing season is its new sponsor Westerhall Rums, the award-winning Grenadian spirit that is now the Club’s official rum partner.

With the Club’s important role as part of the Cowes Combined Clubs that run the racing at Lendy Cowes Week, this partnership is ideally timed as Westerhall is also the official Rum of Lendy Cowes Week.

The Royal Southern is in the midst of a particularly busy schedule of European and World Championships taking place amongst its own Summer Series of regattas and all this hard-fought competition afloat draws huge numbers of competitors ashore post the racing for some well-deserved R&R.

Liberty Hanson, Brand Manager for Westerhall Rums, is very excited about the partnership, saying, “We're delighted to step in as Summer Sailing Sponsor for the Royal Southern Yacht Club. There's something magic in the combination of sun, sailing and good rum and we're looking forward to quenching the thirst of competitors and spectators alike."

In response, the Royal Southern’s Secretary, Christopher Hogan, commented that, "Everyone here is delighted that, from now on, it’ll be R & R... & R - Rest, Relaxation …and Rum and our thanks to Westerhall, working alongside Shepherd Neame, for your support!"

Our Commodore Karen Henderson-Williams was recently interviewed by Sasha Twining on BBC Radio Solent's H20 slot.
Karen was asked about her childhood and how she got into sailing with her parents, how she progressed from dinghies into keel boats and about her role in helping to develop youth sailing at the Club. She explained her current role as well as her stewardship of the Royal Southern as only the second lady Commodore in the Club's 179 year history. Karen also discussed her aims and objectives for the Club going forward. It's a great listen, and we hope you enjoy it.
