NOTICE: Due to the inclement weather forecast for this Saturday and Sunday, we have decided to postpone this weekend's race. Instead, we will hold a 'Belated Independence Day' race on Sunday 12th July. Start time 1100. If you were entered for this weekend and can no longer make the race, please scratch your entry by emailing sailing@royal-southern.co.uk. Otherwise, enter as usual using the form below.

Following the Hamble Charity Cup and Solstice Charity events, there is enthusiasm to run more similar style events. I.e. a single-day, central Solent, round-the-cans.

We will run fortnightly Charity events on 4th July, 19th July and 2nd August starting at 1100 or 1130, within the current Social Distancing guidelines:

  • Boats may be crewed by members of a single household group or by a mixed household group.
  • If the crew is made up from different households, then the maximum crew number is six.
  • The skipper must be confident that a distance of 2m can be maintained between members of different households. This 2m rule applies AT ALL TIMES onboard including preparing the boat, proceeding to the start, the race itself, returning from the finish and packing up the boat.
  • If the crew are members of a different household group then those crew should not enter the cabin.

Some of you have pointed out that there was contradictory guidance from DEFRA, and the Club sought assistance from the RYA. Their email is helpful and means that we can continue to race in the same manner as we have been, but please note, the advice on this seems to tack back-and-forth more frequently than navigating a narrow channel to windward, so we may need to publish amendments if the situation changes.

Please note: the Club has adopted the VPRS handicap system for club-class this year, so if you haven't already done so, please contact Ruth Kelly (ruth@vprs.org) with your:

  • boat name
  • sail number
  • make and model
  • copy of IRC certificate if you have one

Ruth will provide a certificate for £20.
