The Christmas Fayre - 6 November 2021
Saturday 6 November was the day when the Christmas Fayre returned to the Royal Southern for the first time in two years – and what a special day it turned out to be! Despite the dreaded Covid being still widespread in our area, the Fayre drew a good crowd– in excess of 350 overall which is more than had been anticipated. Safety measures such as the one way system around the stalls area, open windows and doors, and face coverings worn by the majority, encouraged lots of people to come and spend on the varied and attractive wares on offer - including the ever popular Bric-a-brac and book stall - and to enjoy coffee, tea and cake in the café upstairs. Apart from the commercial stalls, both our Ladies Committee 2021 charities were represented –The Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust, and Mayfield Nurseries – alongside RNLI, Hamble Lifeboat and Hamble Good Neighbours. The atmosphere was great and the Club was buzzing! The Wheel of Fortune raffle boasted over 100 prizes – due to the generosity of Club members and also local shops and businesses – thank you to all of them. Tickets were soon snapped up, the Vice Commodore spun the wheel, and over £1000 was raised for the Ladies Committee 2021 charities. The total amount from all areas at the end of the day was in excess of £4,300 which is most gratifying for such an event in these uncertain times. Huge thanks from the Ladies Committee go to the many willing volunteers who helped both with the setting up and the running of this event – all their work is very much appreciated. Thanks also go to the Events team and other Club staff for their work beforehand on the planning of the Fayre, and of course on the day itself – their contribution is as always vital to what was a very successful day.
