Nearly 70 people braved some of the worst weather this winter to get to the RYS for the annual Christmas Rally and they were rewarded for their efforts by yet another superb event. Many guests came over early and, understandably, some decided to tag along on David’s tour of the historic Squadron. Although only 30 were booked for the tour about another 15 tagged along. But no-one was disappointed. Over 20 people were staying overnight in the Castle and so enjoyed not only the delicious meal in the evening but also the Squadron’s legendary breakfast offer.
For the 7 yachts who braved the elements to get there, the prize has to go to the only one who had to wait til the Tuesday to get over, by which time the wind had gone into the southwest. “Passion” may be over 13 metres long, and had a crew of 6, but going to windward in 45 knots of wind and driving rain is no joke and showed great determination. The rest of us took the window on Monday afternoon for a great sail over and the opportunity of an extra night to fall among thieves in the local hostelries. As always a great way to get into the Christmas spirit.
