Ladies Committee - Final Update on Funds raised for 2021 Charities
On Saturday, 12th. March 2022, representatives of the Ladies Committee [LC] were pleased to host a lunchtime meeting with colleagues from the two Charities for which funds were raised during 2021. From the Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust came Ella Rowlinson (Community and Individuals Fundraiser) and Danni (now a volunteer for the Trust, having benefitted from their services some years ago). Mayfield Nurseries was represented by Jude Gardner (Community Development and Wellbeing Manager).
The main purpose of this meeting was to finalise officially the total donations made to each Charity, celebrate the effective partnership working that we have all enjoyed, and acknowledge the contributions that the funds will make to the Charities' future work.
Mayfield Nurseries (a subsidiary of Solent Mind) offers mental health and wellbeing support, for people in Southampton and surrounding areas who have mental health issues and/or learning difficulties. This is achieved through gardening and nature-based activities: and the £2000 donated will help to start the refurbishment of a greenhouse space that will enable expansion of the community wellbeing services.
The Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust Programme of activities will be back to full strength in 2022. The Trust's work begins when treatment ends and, with the help of our donation of £5000, 600 young people (including siblings of patients) will be able to access various sailing and outdoor adventures free of charge: and thereby experience improved mental wellbeing, by gaining a new sense of purpose and self-worth, rediscovering their independence and capabilities, and feeling optimism for the future.
Both Charities have expressed heartfelt thanks to LC which, in turn, once again wants to thank all the members and friends who support our fundraising activities.
EMCT has also presented LC with a Certificate of thanks, acknowledging the grand total raised (actually £5030.99!), and this will be displayed in the Clubhouse on the LC Notice Board.
