Hamble Sea Scouts (HSS) was one of the Ladies Committee charities during 2019 and 2020. As they have re-started a wider range of activities once again, we have recently heard from them regarding their plans for using our 2020 donation. The current Chair of their Management Group (Sarah Thomas} writes: 'We are intending to buy boating kit for our younger members, the Beavers and Cubs, particularly rowing boats (Peanut) and paddle boards. We would like to name the rowing boat/s to link them to the Royal Southern Yacht Club, and as a thank you for your continued support.'

Sarah also told us about the planned 2021 usage of the HSS Sigma 38, Spirit of Mercury - the Ladies Committee's 2019 donation contributed to its purchase. The yacht was scrubbed in mid-May by a team of HSS volunteers before being loaned to Northam Scout group for their Beavers and Cubs to be taken on two-hour sailing trips on Southampton Water over a weekend in late May. On 3rd July Spirit of Mercury will be crewed by HSS youth (and a couple of our HSS instructors) in the Round The Island Race, entered into the youth class. This will be a fantastic experience for our teenagers but we are also including younger members in the training weekends that are planned for the summer.
