TNG Swiss Watches was pleased to become the official timekeeper for the week.
The Splash Week youngsters had an opportunity to win an incredible luxury TNG Baltic Cup Timepiece. The competition was simple, tie three essential sailing knots as quickly as possible. The youngsters took to the task with so much enthusiasm many of them were learning knots and practising late at night and early morning to become the fastest knottier. The winner, Bethany (12), won the competition in an amazing time of 6.32 seconds with runner-up Seb (10) only one-tenth of a second behind with 6.43 seconds.
Jeremy Waitt, the TNG Ambassador for the event, said: 'Competition became increasingly fierce as the week went on. Best times went from 11 seconds down to six seconds which outlines how much enthusiasm the youngsters had to win the watch and also to beat each other. Seeing so many have a go at tying the three knots - bowline, a figure of eight and a cleat knot - at speed was fantastic. Towards the end of the competition, the kids queued up for 30 minutes to post their best score. We also had a mini-competition for the smaller ones comprising two knots also with fierce competition for a TNG goody bag.'
The Royal Southern Commodore, Karen Henderson-Williams, said: 'It was an incredible bonus to have TNG Swiss Watches as the official timekeeper. Supporting youth activities at the club continues to be an important role for the future of clubs like ours and TNG's support in offering such a generous prize with such a beautiful timepiece helped create a fantastic atmosphere around as well as improving our youth members' essential knot tying skills. I hope this is the beginning of a continued collaboration with TNG Swiss Watches.’
