On Friday evening, the Splash team held their first ever virtual social! We were very lucky to welcome the Cockleshell Endeavours Atlantic Row team, who spoke to us from sunny Gran Canaria, where they are about to start their 3000 mile TransAtlantic row, which is in aid of the Royal Marines Charity and the Cockleshell Endeavour Foundation, who support Royal Marines veterans. The team consists of two recovering Royal Marine veterans and two current Royal Marines.
They told us about how they found their way to this challenge, with a moving tale of injuries and bravery and also showed the children their boat, and what life would be like while rowing across the Atlantic, which they estimate will take around 50 days. Samples of the freeze dried food they will be enjoying on the way are with Vicky, so a treat for when we are all allowed back together!?! The Marines gave a great speech, and coped admirably with the many questions raised by the Splash sailors!
It would be great to support them - they have had a host of challenges on the way to the start line, with the Covid lockdown meaning that they needed to leave the UK earlier than planned, and therefore they haven’t been able to hold some of the fundraising events which were planned prior to their departure. Therefore, if you would like to sponsor them, they would be very grateful, and a funding link is here: https://www.gofundme.com/royal-marines-atlantic-row
We have recorded the talk (many thanks to our IT guru and master of Splash communications, Mark Greenaway!), which is now available on our Youtube channel and linked below.
Their website is here: www.cockleshellendeavour.com, and on facebook under Cockleshell Endeavour Atlantic Row, so please do follow them. They will be on AIS, so you can also track them online as they carry out this amazing fea
